The meeting.
Wednesday January 7, 2009

“Why not?” says Ashley. “There’s no rule against it.”

“Why not?” says Ashley. “There’s no rule against it.”

“I don’t think anybody thought there’d have to be a rule against it,” says Morgan, ahead of her on the path. “I mean, come on.

“Why do you think I let you elect a froshling?” says Ashley.

“Ms. Ackerman!” says Morgan, stopping by the screen of arbor vitæ.

“Girls,” says Ms. Ackerman. “No fighting in public.”

“But you can’t possibly—!”

“There’s already a rule in place,” says Ms. Ackerman. “The only rule we really need. What is it?”

“No boys ever forever,” says Morgan.

“Morgan,” says Ms. Ackerman, sharply.

Morgan sighs and looks away. “Always say yes,” she mutters.

“Unless you must say no,” says Ms. Ackerman. “Are you saying no to this?”

Morgan slowly shakes her head. Ashley, smirking, pushes through the screen of arbor vitæ and squeezes her way into the hollow below. Morgan and Ms. Ackerman follow.

Joey Rose is already there, wearing only her teal-colored panties, lying on her belly on a blue cloth spread on the grass. “Wow,” says Ashley.

“This is a club meeting, isn’t it?” says Joey Rose, rolling over on her side. “I think y’all are over-dressed.” She reaches up to pull Ashley down for a kiss, and Ashley sinks to her knees on the blue cloth beside her, her hands fumbling at the buttons of her blouse.

“Joey,” says Morgan, as Joey Rose starts to undo Ashley’s skirt, but Ms. Ackerman shakes her head and puts her hand on Morgan’s shoulder.

“Not now,” she says, and she smiles.
